Music 

What is the value of the Course?

 

Music at GCSE will be of interest to those students who are enthusiastic about music and enjoy participating in music whether as a singer or piano player, drummer or songwriter.  In addition students with a music qualification acquire many skills, which are valued by employers and businesses alike.  The study of music stretches the imagination, builds confidence and develops an ear for sound and language. 

 

What will it involve?

 

GCSE Music is for the main part a practical course, which is designed for students whatever their standard.  Emphasis is placed on students being able to work on individual projects for their practical coursework with guidance and tuition on practical work and exercises.  Preparation for the Listening paper is provided by a course of instruction and practice taking up one period per week.

 


How will it be assessed?

 

The course is divided into three parts:

 

Part 1

Integrated Coursework – 30%

          Students submit a related piece of work consisting of:

                    A Performance

                    A Composition

                    An Appraisal

 

Further Coursework – 30%

          Students submit a further coursework of their choice consisting of:

                    1 Performance

                    1 Composition

 

Part 2

Terminal Task – 15%

Students prepare a piece from a chosen stimulus. This is done at the end of the course.

 

Part 3

Listening paper 25%

          Students sit a listening examination at the end of the course.
