Citizenship
We encourage Citizenship and an awareness of others through:
GCSE short course Citizenship in years 9, 10 and 11 Learning Council House Councils: House Committees and Student Board Charity days Millennium volunteers The Young Achievers Award Project 16
In addition Post 16 students organise an annual Christmas party for local senior citizens and take part in the Learning Challenge with our middle schools
GCSE Short Course Citizenship
All students study a short course in GCSE Citizenship in years 9, 10 and 11 This includes three main themes:
1) Citizenship – rights and responsibilities 2) Citizenship and government 3) Citizenship and participation Students will be given opportunities to:
1) Acquire and apply knowledge and understanding about becoming informed citizens. 2) Investigate local, national and international issues, problems and events of current interest. 3) Critically evaluate their participation within school and/or community issues.
