Students will study the following units in Year 9:

1) The Twentieth Century World
2) The Native Peoples of North America

From these units Students will be taught about:

1) Changes in the economy, society, culture and political structure of Britain in the Twentieth Century
2) Aspects of European and non-European History

These units allow students the opportunity to

1) Use their historical knowledge to evaluate and use sources of information.
2) Construct narratives, descriptions and explanations of historical events and developments

Students can choose to study one of two GCSE History courses

Either:
GCSE Modern World History
This includes:

1) Britain 1906-1918
2) International Relations 1919-1939
3) Germany 1919-1945
4) The Fighting in the First World War
    
From these units students will be taught about:

1) Key events, features and characteristics of the period studied
2) A significant element of British History
3) History from a variety of perspectives
4) History through a range of sources

Students will be given opportunities to

1) Acquire knowledge and understanding
2) Investigate historical events, changes, people and issues
3) Develop understanding of how the past has been interpreted
4) Use historical sources critically in the historical content

Or:
GCSE Modular History
The course focuses on the theme of displaced peoples
This includes:

Module One The international significance of the Irish famine
Module Two Raiders and invaders, Britain c.400-c.1100 AD
Module Three The impact of black people in the USA

Module Four The Native Americans

From these units students will be taught about:

1) Key events, features and characteristics of the period studied.
2) A significant element of British History
3) History from a variety of perspectives
4) History through a range of sources

Students will be given opportunities to

1) Acquire knowledge and understanding
2) Investigate historical events, changes, people and issues
3) Develop understanding of how the past has been interpreted and represented
4) Use historical sources critically in the historical content

Students study the following course for AS/A level:

1) Britain 1815-1914
2) Germany c.1880-c.1980

During AS/A level students are given the opportunity to

1) Acquire and effectively communicate knowledge and understanding of a period of History
2) Develop an understanding of historical terms and concepts
3) Explore the significance of events, individuals, issues and societies in History
4) Understand the nature of historical evidence and the methods used by historians in analysis and evaluation
5) Develop an understanding of how the past has been interpreted and represented
6) Develop an understanding of the nature of historical study
