A level Design and Technology A Specialist Status Subject Specification Details: AS and A2 Product Design courses are offered. The specifications include discrete routes in Graphics, Textiles and Resistant Materials Course Details Units at AS The AS course comprises two units as follows: 1, Product development - this is an internally assessed coursework project which represents 50% of the AS award and 25% of the A2 award. 2, Knowledge and understanding of Product Design - this is examined through a 2 hour externally marked terminal paper, which represents 50% of the AS award and 25% of the A2 award. This includes the study of Materials and Components that are specific to the chosen outcome, either: Graphics, Textiles or Resistant Materials. The A2 course comprises of two units as follows: 3, Further study of Industrial and Commercial Products and Practices - this is examined through a 2 hour externally marked terminal paper, which represents 25% of the A2 award 4, Product Development 2 - is an internally assessed coursework project which represents 25% of the A2 award. What are the skills required to start the course? Students are generally expected to have achieved at least a grade B at GCSE in Design and Technology. Possible Career Pathways A level Design and Technology lends itself to further development through a range of design and engineering degrees in a number of disciplines, from civil and mechanical engineering to graphic, interior, textiles and product design.
